We've Been Hit...

...by the flu bug?!?

I think that's what's going on. Logan had a crazy week last week - what seemed like either food poisoning or 24-hour flu from Tues night to Wed night. Then he seemed to be doing pretty good for the next couple of days. He wasn't eating a lot and was consequently a little low on energy, but we thought his body was just recovering. Then, on Saturday, he was really whiny, had a low temp (100), and had some diarrhea. That night he was super cranky - just not his normal self. Sunday he woke up with a cough that seemed to go away, so we decided to take him to church. He missed his nap (1:00 church) and the nursery leaders brought him to me during RS because he was nodding off during snack time. Logan fell asleep on my lap in RS but awoke about 10 min before the end of the meeting. He woke up super fussy and sounded awful. He seemed to have a cough and sore throat and sounded kinda croupy. We let him watch a movie when we got home and then took his temperature cause he just wasn't coming out of his yuckiness. It was 101. I could tell that he didn't want to swallow or cough too hard cause his throat hurt. He even drooled a bit to avoid swallowing. My thought was - I hope he doesn't have strep. I looked it up on the internet and saw that it's unusual for kids under 3 to get it, but it didn't say it wasn't possible. So, Garrick and I opted for the safe route and took Logan to Urgent Care around 6:30.

That's a story in and of itself. It wasn't too busy and we got in to see the nurse fairly quickly. The doctor took a little longer to come in. He was talking to Logan like he was 3 or 4, asking him how he felt and commenting on how he wasn't talking much. I wanted to say, "Are you kidding? The kid's barely two. He does talk a lot, but this whole sick at the doctor thing is completely new to him." Anyway, I wasn't particularly impressed. I was surprised, too, that the doctor didn't even listen to him breathing. Whatever. He did take a strep test and had us wait, and wait, and wait, and wait, and wait for the results. It was getting late, Logan had fallen asleep on Garrick, and I finally stepped out and asked the nurse if they had forgotten about us. She seemed a little shocked and said something about the doctor(s) checking the score of the Superbowl. (It was on in the lobby.) Oops! I was so unimpressed. He came in a couple of minutes later and basically told us the test was negative, so it looked like it was just a cold.

Logan woke up with the same croupy cough and sore throat. He has enough energy to play a little but still likes to be carried up and down the stairs, etc. (Not normal for him.) At one point I carried him upstairs to change his diaper and found myself short on breath, kind of dizzy, and just out of it. (I ought to throw in that our "upstairs" is really only a short flight of stairs - about 8.) I changed him and then told him that I needed to sit down for a minute. I soon found out that a bit of the flu had hit me. I took care of business in the bathroom, and Logan happily agreed to watch shows while I laid down on the couch.

Garrick called about an hour later to see how we were doing. He said that he had thrown up at work but that he was feeling so much better that he was going to stay. He came home about an hour later after realizing that he really did feel awful - chills, body aches, etc. Yuck! So, as you can see, we're a mess at the Peterson household.

Anyone want to come visit?

Logan Funnies

Logan says funny things all the time, but I don't always seem to remember them. Luckily I wrote one down the other day, so I can re-read it and share it. It probably won't be as funny when you read it as it was when he said it, but I'll share anyway.

Logan was holding his Lightening McQueen car (as usual) and said, "Mommy, Christmas gave me this Lightening McQueen."

I responded with, "Who gave you the Lightening McQueen? Santa?"

Logan then said, "Santa. You're right."

When we were in St George last weekend we went for a morning walk (yes, outside). Logan started playing "Stop light, go light" with us. At one point he turned around, said, "Stop light," and then as we all stopped he added, "We stopped just in time." For what? We'll never know, but it was pretty funny coming out of his wee little mouth.

Logan is often found telling us, "Of course," and "Good idea, mom (or dad)." Those always crack me up, too.

Meltdowns...on a regular basis!?!

So I don't know if we've hit the terrible 2's or what, but Logan has had some pretty serious meltdowns the last couple of days. This morning's was originally caused by Lightening McQueen being broken. But, by the time I joined the scene, it was Logan saying, "I want to watch a show," over and over again through many tears. The answer to that question was, of course, "no," or the meltdown would probably have ended. But, once the "no" was given, we weren't going to back down. The crying and show-begging lasted for what seemed like 15 minutes, but finally we were able to distract Logan with his new train set (subject for another post).

Before I finish the story, let me give you a quick background on Lightening McQueen. Logan got him from Santa for Christmas, and I don't think it has left his hand since. Earlier in the week one of Lightening's eyes rubbed off somehow. Logan and I were at Target that day, and I thought I would go ahead and spend the $3.50 to buy a replacement Lightening. Logan was thrilled. We went straight from Target to volleyball at the church, and Logan just about lost his new Lightening. He was running it along the accordian-like curtain and somehow got it around or underneath the wooden piece at the end of the curtain. I couldn't see or reach Lightening, and I figured he was a gonner. But, my friend Corrine used her strength to pull the wooden piece out enough that I could barely squeeze my arm behind it and reach McQueen. Whew! That was a close call.

On Friday we were leaving volleyball, and I was putting our stuff in the back of the car. Logan was slowly making his way to his car, and according to him, he was driving his Lightening along the grill of someone's SUV when he dropped it. Lightening was nowhere to be found. I'm not sure what happened to him, but there was a sewage drain underneath the car that he could possibly have fallen into. Who knows. The bottom line is - this time Lightening wasn't so lucky. I thought about replacing him again, but then realized I could be replacing Lightening every week if I wasn't careful. I decided Logan would have to make do with his old one-eyed Lightening. That worked just fine until this morning's meltdown.

Back to the meltdown recovery. Logan and Garrick were playing trains, and I decided to see what I could do about the one-eyed Lightening. I grabbed a fine-tipped black Sharpie as well as a light blue one, and in a matter of seconds, Lightening was "fixed" (or "sixed" as Logan would say.) I proudly marched Lightening upstairs and surprised Logan with his new fixed car. He was sooooo excited!!! Now, let's hope it lasts!

Quick Update

Wow, I'm way behind when it comes to blogging. One of these days I'll get around to posting some pictures & stories about the holidays. On the brighter side, Garrick and I are off to a good start on Logan's journal this year. We are trying to write an entry each Sunday. We'll see how long it lasts. I think I made 3 or 4 entries all of last year. Oops.

Most of you have probably already heard our news - we're expecting a little girl in early June. We had the ultrasound on Monday, and she appeared very healthy. We hope and pray that she continues to grow and develop properly. In the mean time, we have lots of work to do. We have a name to pick out (suggestions?), 2 rooms to decorate (We'll move Logan to a "boy" room, and I'm toying with the idea of making the nursery more "girly." It's a neutral yellow right now.), and lots of girl shopping to do. Ok, so maybe not lots, but I will admit that I've already started. I just can't resist a good sale. So, with winter clearance going on right now, I just ordered some cute winter baby girl clothes from The Children's Place. I got 2 shirts, a pair of pants, a dress, and a cute dressy coat for $30. Not too shabby.

Oh, it looks like the boys are done watching their Mickey Mouse show, so we're off to the grocery store. More later.

Birthday Time!

Just a couple of quick words along with a few pictures. (I really ought to go get Logan up from his nap. It's 5pm. Yikes!)

Logan showing his excitement (ha ha) for his Little Einsteins Rocket cake. Logan is a BIG fan of this show, and I think we've seen every episode - multiple times! The other night I started singing the theme song, and I was shocked to hear him sing the words to entire phrases. He got a Rocket sticker/coloring book for his birthday along with some mini figurines and a Rocket book where he gets to find things on each page. He gets really excited when he sees violins or trumpets. (BTW, every stringed instrument - guitar included, is a violin to this guy.)

Logan enjoying his cake. I do have to say that my cake-making tradition may be drawing to a close. I know I've only made two, BUT...we don't even like traditional cake all that much. (Obviously Logan enjoyed it all right). We ate it this night and then threw the rest out. I'm wondering if, in the future, I can talk Logan into cheesecake, pie, crisp, donuts, or any other yummy treat besides cake. We'll see.

Logan enjoying the "scooper" that he got from mom and dad. Gma Peterson is in the background. Logan was super excited to have grandma, grandpa, and Jackie join us for his birthday celebration.

Playin Legos with grandma.

Trying on his new bike helmet. It'll be interesting to see if we can get him to wear it. :)

Logan likes Thomas, but he definitely was NOT a fan of this costume. As you can see, it's too long for him. I ended up getting a safety pin and pinning it up a bit. But, it worked for the few minutes that we went trick-or-treating. He loved his "Halloween bucket" and getting treats, but he wasn't shy about letting us know when he was ready to "go home?"

We decided to carve one of the pumpkins before dinner on Halloween night. Logan thought it was pretty fun.

Our Last Little Fun in the Sun

We had a fun last little 'summer' stint in FL this past month. Garrick took a job presenting for a school district there, and Logan and I couldn't help but tag along. We spent 1/2 a day at Disneyworld for "Mickey Mouse's Not-So-Scary Halloween Party," went to the beach twice, got to watch both Jake and Sydney play in their soccer games, and had a great time just hanging out with the Weatherspoons. We had lovely weather while we were there and came home to a freezing cold house. (We had turned off the heat while we were gone.) Then we woke up to snow on the ground the next morning. Fall/winter are officially here.

We were a little surprised by how brave Logan was. We rode Dumbo twice, and he seemed to like it. He especially liked the Small World ride and driving the cars around the race track.
Logan driving the race car. I had to take over the driving for a minute or so in the middle of the ride, just so that we could have a break from being jerked back and forth. :)

Jake and Sydney showing Logan the 'cool' features of Minnie Mouse's kitchen - popcorn popping in the microwave and a cake rising in the oven.

Meeting Mickey and Minnie Mouse.

My first time at Disneyworld (or Disneyland for that matter). So happy to meet the characters!
