A Great Break, Even If It Wasn't Too Springy

We had a wonderful spring break this past week; it was hard to see it end. Garrick only had to work one day, and we were able to just relax and enjoy the rest of the week. We went to the gym together in the mornings, we ran errands, we played cars, trucks, dinosaurs, and trains, and we had a great time. Logan LOVED playing with his dad so much that he started saying things like, "Not you, mom. Daddy." Gotta love the honesty of the 2 yr-old!

We did take one little vacation and had a great time. We went to Price, UT, where we toured the dinosaur museum, swam in their wave pool, and explored the petroglyphs of nearby Nine Mile Canyon (which is in reality more like 45 miles long). We stayed in a motel the first night and headed home after seeing the canyon the following day.

Unfortunately, we paid our museum entrance fees at the gift shop. Logan was so distracted by all of the toy dinosaurs, that all he could talk about while we looked through the museum was how much he wanted to buy a couple of the dinosaurs. Oh well. Again, that's life with a 2 yr-old. We planned on buying one of the dinosaurs for him, and we finally realized the sooner we bought it, the better the rest of the museum would be. We're learning. Slowly, but surely.

The rest of these pictures were taken throughout Nine Mile Canyon. You can see some of the petroglyphs, lots of cool rocks, and how much Logan likes playing with his dinosaurs. Let's just say that our hiking speed was SL-OOOOO-OOOOW. There was so much to explore and so many places to look for dinosaur food. Speaking of looking for things, along one trail we saw some deer poop and pointed it out to Logan. His new favorite thing was then looking for more poop. Kind of funny!

I just wanted to share one more thing, which isn't even related to this trip. Logan has some pretty cute phrases that he says. When you ask him something like "Do you need your diaper changed?" or "Do you want to eat lunch?" he'll often respond with, "No, I'm good." If you ask him a question to which the answer is yes, sometimes you'll get, "Why of course, daddy (or mommy)." I think that one is my all-time favorite.

I guess that's it for now.

Out with the Old, In with the New

This isn't a great picture, but I am glad that I remembered to snap it before this old light fixture made its way to the trash can. This fairly good-sized basement bedroom had 2 of these light fixtures, but only 2 of the 3 lights worked in each one. The fixture was ugly and the lighting made the room seem just a little dingy.

We recently had recessed lighting put in, and the room is so much brighter and better! Again, not a great picture, but you get the idea. The guest room is back in business and is better than ever!

A Muddy Mess

On Saturday between conference sessions, Garrick and I decided to get a little gardening in. We had purchased a nectarine tree at Costco the week before, and we were ready to get it planted. You might ask what we know about growing fruit. The answer is: NOTHING! But, we love to eat it, and the tree was only $10.99, so we thought, "Why not?" Anyway, we made a muddy mess, got the tree planted, and even planted a few rows of peas and onions.

We were excited to have Logan help us out in our garden this year, and Garrick was particularly thrilled (and I'm not being sarcastic) to see Logan get muddy and enjoy it. (He tends to freak out a little at the dinner table when he spills stuff. He's a, "wipe it, mommy" type of guy.) Hooray for Logan and his mess!

Yummy Soup Recipe

Just wanted to share a yummy Sweet Chili Tortilla soup recipe that we had for dinner yesterday. You can find it by clicking on this link:

Give it a try! It's even fairly healthy (depending on what you throw on top of it).

Photo Update

He's not a baby anymore, but from time to time I still catch him sleeping with his bum up in the air. It's so cute to me that I had to take a picture.

In late January we took a quick trip to St George with Garrick's parents and sister, Jackie. One of the highlights was having warm enough weather to go to a park and play around a bit. This particular park had some pretty cool equipment.

Jackie and Garrick on a very unique swing.

Logan was brave enough to go down this slide with his dad.

After a fun ride down the slide.
These next few pictures were taken at the Shark Reef Aquarium at Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas. Logan was so excited to see the sharks!
Here we are on the UNLV campus. We were able to combine a school trip (Garrick working on his dissertation) with a Cougar-cheering trip (We had tickets to BYU's first 2 MWC tournament games). It was a lot of fun!

Random Tidbits

We had a fun week of visitors last week, and I didn't take a single photo. What's up with that? My mom and sister, Kelly, came to visit Mon - Fri, and then Garrick's parents and sister visited over the weekend. It feels so quiet and lonely now. We loved having company - especially Logan. He was a little under the weather at the beginning of the week, but he really perked up by Friday. He loved having so many people around to play with.

This afternoon we made our first trip to Chuck E Cheese's for one of Logan's friend's birthday parties. Logan kept saying, "Want it to be my birthday," and "I don't want to go home." I think he could have stayed there until his next birthday. :) He's really not old enough to play most of the games, but I guess that saves us money. He ran around thinking he was playing the games, and I'm pretty sure he was having just as much fun as everyone else.

Last Monday Garrick had a day off so we took the opportunity to do something fun. We had planned on going to the zoo, but as we were driving to Salt Lake, the weather was looking iffy, so we changed our minds and opted for the Children's Discovery Museum instead. Logan had a lot of fun and really wore himself out. His favorite parts were sitting in and driving the helicopter and playing in the water area. He got himself soaking wet and now I know to bring a change of clothes along next time.

Leaky Roof Update

Fortunately for us, the leaky roof only lasted about 20 minutes last Friday. It was a slow, steady drip for that time, but at least it was just one drip, not a gush of water. Phew! We got a recommendation for a roofer and had an appt set for him to come check things out on Saturday afternoon. Well, Saturday came and went with no roofer showing up. Are all fix-it guys the same? (Flaky when it comes to keeping appointments, work at their own schedule, don't bother to call when they can't come, etc). We got a little rain Sat night and even more Sun night, but there was no additional leaking in the kitchen ceiling. Garrick managed to get ahold of the roof guy again today (Mon). I haven't heard why he didn't show on Saturday, but nevertheless, he showed up this afternoon. He checked out the roof and said that the swamp cooler area was a "Mess." We don't use the swamp cooler - in fact, we've already blocked a couple of the swamp cooler air ducts (or whatever they're called) inside the house. So, the solution? Get rid of it! The swamp cooler is being removed and the roof is being repaired as we speak. I'm grateful to have it fixed so quickly.
